A Bunch of Teenagers Left a Legacy and PLEDGE For The Future

12 days have passed… all the fun, experiences, sad and happy moments we have spent together unfortunately have to end here. However of course the memories and all the stuff we have learned and done will always be in our heart.

Each of everyone of us made a pledge to our self, to the world that we are going to go back in. After a successful evening yesterday, we green leaders have left a legacy to the community of Green School and Green Camp and the local community. They decided to do this football tournament and plastic waste collection once in every month. We have left a LEGACY! I feel old now 😛 lol not really. It proves that even though we are just a bunch of teenagers… we can make a change! and YOU DO TOO.

I PLEDGE… that I will with my whole heart continue this legacy (since I will still be around at Green School for another year) and I welcome everyone of you to join us in this happy occasion that we are planning to have every once a month.

I also PLEDGE… to start separating the organic waste and turned them into compost and give it to my baby plants at home. ^^ I bet they will be happy. Also, to make a creative piece out of the plastic waste that me and my family have collected for quiet a while now.

I PLEDGE… to continue writing songs and get my message across through my love into music and to raise awareness about the issues that I feel strong to stand up for. So… I hope you could wait for my songs and hopefully I would be able to record it and shows it to you all. ^^\

With this I want to say thanks to everyone in the Green Leaders that have been sharing all the love during this wonderful journey. This journey hasn’t over yet guys! Remember that we have each other’s back and I know we will meet each other again! ^^

A Message Through a Melody

This pass three days we have been working on an amazing event that we are going to hold  tomorrow evening. Great, great, great inspirations and creativity have shown in the process of it. Four of the girls in the group have decided to spread their message of protecting Indonesian and Balinese culture through cooking, three of the boys have decided to do a football tournament and for admission people that are coming has to bring a bag of plastic waste to raise awareness about waste problem, a boy decided to make an E-Book about waste management to send out to people. and another girl decided to teach the local kids to dance Balinese dance to protect the culture.

Me? …I choose to write a song.

To write songs, sing, and to play musical instruments have been something that I am really good at. Especially when Scotty and Emily told us about what we want to do to make a change and make it happen in three days… I want to make a song. A song that can spread a message and let people know that anyone can make a change, that anyone can give something to whatever issues that they care for. A song that can make them realized that all you need is LOVE

Built a Villa and Made Healthy Juices for Our Baby “PLANTS”

Since the beginning if this journey we have talk countless of times about the concept of Tri Hita Karana, the relationship between God and human, human and human, human and nature. For the past week we have been looking deep into how a lot of people have been neglecting this relationship between human and nature by throwing garbage in the river which will eventually end up in the ocean, using so much plastic which is not a biodegradable material, cutting trees which create deforestation and a lot more.

Yesterday we have been strengthening our relationship between us and nature by creating a nice place for our cute seedlings ^^ We cut a lot of bamboo pieces and built it from nothing until it can stand up straight by it self. An awesome experience!

360 degree of “AWESOME”ness – Camping at Batur

Day 4: We went a long way from our comfortable yurts to go camping at Batur. BEAUTIFUL beautiful landscape can be seen from there. 360 degree we see around us are all beautiful. We could see the mount Batur and mount Agung in the other side, we could also see the lake Batur along with the ocean from the opposite side. AMAZING!

Although in order to get there we have to go on a boat and hike a long way up to the camp site, I think it was really worth it. Especially when we get to try fishing in at the lake of Mt Batur… also the campfire that we had. We grilled some fish and sing along around it the place where it supposed to be cold became really warm. ^^

Day 5: Our journey continue… We woke up really early in the morning to watch the beautiful sunrise. We learn about how the bamboo are usually used in Balinese culture and we tried to make stuff like basket out of bamboo. Probably because I haven’t done that before it felt like I was doing a really hard equation in a math test.. GAH!

After that we plant some bamboos supporting the Bali Re-Green project to re-green the location we went for camping. We head down not long after that. We ended our trip with a relaxing couple of hours in a hot spring while looking at the beautiful view.

Day 6: Tenganan Village! We went for a hike yesterday looking the inside of a really unique village called Tenganan Village. We did video blog about that our trip that day… so… stay tune ^^

Day Full of Waste ^^

Have you ever think of what to do with your waste? Do you recycle or just dump them at a landfill?

Through our journey of collecting garbage along with our local friends from SMP 3 Abiansemal this morning, I realized how much plastics we consume everyday in our life. Although we could recycle most of those plastics, sadly people are not aware of that and just dump them in random places or burn it which can harm the environment.

An environmentalist that joined our journey today to visits places where some of the waste in Bali ended up mentioned that when you throw your garbage or burn them it’s the same as throwing and burning money. Because if you up-cycle (remaking the waste into another kind of form) them, you could sell it and obtain money from it. WASTE can be MONEY??? yeah… Glass bottles can become beautiful drinking glasses, tires could become awesome looking wallets, sterofoams into beanbags… ^^

So guys, lets create this new trend… RECYCLE and UP-CYCLE, make money out of it! Be smart with your waste, and make our home and environment a better place. ^^

The Beginning of Our Journey ^^

Hi and welcome to our Green Leaders Journey blog.

My name is Alicia Nur Annisa, an Indonesian, a talented musician who loves to make songs, sing, strum guitars and tickle the piano keys. I go to Green School which I believe is the greenest school on earth. I love being a part of a community that is open and very inspiring, which is why I’m here in this journey to experience new things and meet lots of amazing leaders.

Today in our journey we were faced with a question “What does Green mean to you?” Green to me is being aware and conscious about whatever action we do, how every move and action can actually affect our surroundings and of course that we are a part of “Nature”. And leader to me is the foundation that starts every movement on this planet. I believe they need to have the ability to communicate to get their voice out, and to do every action from their heart, and of course what is a leader without its followers, nothing can be done if you are alone.

In this journey I will be expecting to have a lot of experience and to dig in more about who I am and getting to know myself better.
