Tenganan: A journey into the original Bali

Green Leaders Journey hiked across the rice terraces and through the rainforest to reach the village of Tenganan. This remarkable village has found a way to meet the demands of Bali’s tourism industry while preserving its unique culture.

On the way in, we stopped to help a 90 year old tenant farmer plant bananas. We learned how the village is using agroforestry as a source of income.

We feasted on a delicious lunch in Tenganan village, and had a walk around – looking at homes, learning about local crafts, and learning about some of the traditions that make Tenganan stand out.

In the evening we headed off to Batu Bulan, where we got into the mud-pit to take part in an interactive Mepantigan performance led by Putu Witsen.
